Rooted
Trees have always been very important to me - they are landmarks of our environment and our lives; story tellers, secret keepers, history teachers.
Over the past few months of uncertainty, walking amongst the woodlands of the South Downs where I live has been a comforting experience; the trees symbolise strength, resilience and growth. This body of work explores these elements; looking at how fragile we can feel, despite what appearances may suggest.
While walking, I collected fallen branches which I have used to make the trunks of the trees and the bases they stand on. The branches are porcelain, thrown on the wheel then cut and gently twisted.
